An excellent way to advance your screenwriting career is to make a list of all the relevant festivals, competitions, and gatherings that you can find. If you don’t mind traveling outside of your metropolitan area to get to these events, then write down the festivals farther away as well. This is especially important if you already made a short film and wish to show it off to people at these festivals. Then you don’t want to be picky about only going to the nearest locations, but instead you’ll want to branch out and show it off everywhere.
Having a few films made will also help your screenwriting career. They don’t have to be long films. Just something that visually represents your stories and writing. You’ll find that producers and investors will be more eager to provide you with funding for future projects if they’ve seen a film of yours that they like. This could even be a showreel that just contains various scenes from your scripts. The more films you have to show, the better your chances of getting someone to fund your next film project.
